Fair Housing Policy

Last updated: May 19, 2026

Our commitment

RentersLand is committed to equal housing opportunity. We do not discriminate against any person in connection with the rental, sale, or financing of housing on the basis of any protected characteristic under applicable law.

1) Federal Fair Housing Act

The Fair Housing Act (42 U.S.C. § 3601 et seq.) prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of housing based on the following protected classes:

  • Race
  • Color
  • National origin
  • Religion
  • Sex
  • Familial status (including children under 18 living with parents or legal guardians, pregnant women, and people securing custody of children)
  • Disability (physical or mental)

Many states and cities extend protections to additional characteristics such as source of income, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, marital status, and veteran status. RentersLand complies with all applicable federal, state, and local fair housing laws.

2) What this means on our platform

RentersLand does not permit any user — owner, landlord, or renter — to:

  • Refuse to rent, sell, or negotiate housing based on a protected characteristic.
  • State or advertise any preference, limitation, or discrimination based on a protected characteristic in any listing, message, or communication on the platform.
  • Apply different rental terms, conditions, privileges, or fees based on a protected characteristic.
  • Use tenant screening criteria in a way that has a discriminatory effect on a protected class without a legitimate, non-discriminatory business justification.

3) Tenant screening and fair housing

Screening criteria applied through the RentersLand platform (such as income requirements, credit thresholds, and background check results) must be applied consistently to all applicants and must not be used as a pretext for discrimination. Owners and landlords using the platform are responsible for ensuring their screening criteria comply with applicable fair housing law.

4) How to report a fair housing concern

If you believe you have experienced housing discrimination on the RentersLand platform, you may:

  • Contact us directly: support@rentersland.com. We take all fair housing reports seriously and will investigate promptly.
  • File a complaint with HUD: the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) accepts fair housing complaints at hud.gov or by calling 1-800-669-9777.
  • Contact your state or local fair housing agency: most states and many cities have their own fair housing enforcement offices that accept complaints in addition to or instead of HUD.

5) Consequences of violations

Users who violate this policy may have their listings removed, their accounts suspended or permanently terminated, and may be reported to appropriate authorities. Fair housing violations are serious and may carry civil and criminal penalties under federal and state law.
